Reconnected & Disconnected by Bethany Daniel

Book 1
Four years ago, Kate Parker was Katy Warren. Wife to Hollywood's newest star, Liam Warren, she thought her marriage would stay the same when she and her new husband moved to L.A., but she was wrong.

One night after a particularly crazy party, she threatened to leave if Liam could no longer be the man she married. Unfortunately, he didn't believe her until she was gone. Katy left Liam and Hollywood behind, disappearing without a trace, but couldn't bring herself to ever officially end their marriage.

Now, Katy is just Kate. She's living in college dorms with her best friend Krista, working towards a psychology degree. As far as she's concerned, Liam is out of sight and out of mind.

That is, until he shows up on campus while he's in town filming his latest movie.

Sparks fly, both good and bad, and Katy has to decide if she can handle Liam and his world again... and more importantly, if she can trust him with her heart again.

                                                          Book 2
Four years ago, Liam Warren was on top of the world. He was a newlywed, he was discovered by Excite Entertainment, and he finally got to leave the small Nevada town where he grew up with his wife, Katy. But when they moved to L.A., Liam got too caught up in the Hollywood life. Parties, drinking, and girls clouded his mind. His marriage was no longer his priority, and he pushed Katy away.

One night, Katy came home to find their mansion filled with half-clothed women and Hollywood's partying elite. She told Liam she would leave if things didn't get better, but he was so wrapped up in his new life that he didn't believe her... at least, not until she was gone, and all he had left of her was a note that tore him apart.

But, although she disappeared, Katy never officially divorced him. And when a movie brings him to Georgia, a tour of a local college campus unexpectedly brings him face to face with his wife again.

Four years apart has changed a lot of things for the both of them, but when it comes down to it, their connection is still there. Liam sets out to show Katy that their love is worth fighting for, hoping he can regain her trust and prove to her that he has no intention of ever letting her go again.

Disconnected can be read as a stand-alone, but reading both Connected novels offers fans a deeper understanding of the characters in the series.

(BREAK MY FALL, the first book in the No Limits series, is a complete, full-length novel that can also be read as a stand-alone.)

EXCERPT ONE

I had talked to Drew on three previous occasions over the summer, each time wanting nothing more than to be left alone. Our fourth conversation took place the day I got arrested, and it changed everything.
It was the middle of July and Tropical Storm Andrea was bearing down on the South Carolina coast. Most people were secure in their homes for the day, avoiding the winds and flash flooding, heeding the warnings of local officials.
But to me, those warnings were made to be ignored, especially when the advisories called for waves that would be six to eight feet high.
Surfing is how I find peace. It’s the purest form of escape I’ve ever known. I had always felt like that, but after what happened to me a couple of months ago, having an escape from everyday life was more critical to my survival than ever.
I had fled from my life a few months ago, leaving Florida and ending up in the Charleston, South Carolina, area. I had escaped in a literal, physical sense, but I still craved the mental escape, and for me there was no better way to do that than riding waves.
The tide was going out—a good thing in any tropical storm or hurricane—and as I walked across the sand toward the water, the incoming waves hurled themselves toward the beach, crashing violently and disintegrating, followed shortly by another, another, another… The waves here on Isle of Palms are sometimes pretty decent and surfing-worthy, but nothing like the ones provided by Tropical Storm Andrea.
I walked into the ocean, feeling the undertow pulling at my ankles, almost urging me to go farther out, an urging I didn’t need because I was about to get in some of the best surfing I’d had since arriving here.
Past the first few breakers, I placed my board down on the water, flopped my belly down on it, and began paddling. First straight out, then parallel to the beach, waiting for the wave that would take me back to shore.
I chose my wave, paddling myself into position. My brain switched into what I call Surfing Escape Mode:
I’m on the wave. It’s powerful. Rough. Almost violent. It pushes me. Lifts me.
I’m free.
I have to work to remain free—flexing my leg muscles; using my arms to balance my body; shifting my center mass to stay steady; all of this is work, hard work, but the payoff is being free.
It’s usually over in a matter of seconds like that. But those real-time seconds are long dream-like minutes, and that’s exactly what I desire.
The freedom didn’t last long that day, though, because as I trudged through the knee-deep water where the ride ended, I looked up and saw a cop. He stood facing me, a few dozen yards away up on the beach.
I don’t know how long he had been there. Probably just a few minutes. But if he’d been yelling, I hadn’t heard it, thanks to the noise of the roiling Atlantic, and the wind. It was mid-afternoon, but the storm made it seem like dusk. Using his flashlight, the cop motioned for me to get out of the water and come toward him.
I had a choice to make: either pick up my board and obey the officer, or ignore him and go back out for one more wave.

EXCERPT TWO (This takes place during Leah and Drew's first serious conversation.)

He picked up his hat and held it over the empty plate, wringing it out. There wasn’t very much water in it, just enough to make a little puddle on the plate. He put the hat on, pulled it down just enough to where I could still see his eyes. He finally answered, and it wasn’t what I expected at all.
“You’re the first girl I’ve ever seen surfing around here. I mean really surfing, not just messing around. That interested me. That’s why I talked to you those times. Because you were different. Like me. You’re a risk-taker, but something’s holding you back. Something happened to you. That’s why you’re here. That’s why you mostly keep to yourself. That’s why you have those walls up.”
I felt my eyes narrowing in anger. I didn’t like this at all. Everything he was saying was true. And it pissed me off. I slid off the seat and stood. “I have to go.”
I started walking toward the door and I had just picked up my surfboard when he said, “Leah, wait. I’m sorry.”
I turned around.
He got up and moved toward me. “It’s raining like crazy, it’s still windy. At least let me drive you home.”
I looked out the window and saw that it was still quite blustery. Walking home with this surfboard wouldn’t have been much fun. And it was only a short distance, which meant I wouldn’t have to put up with him for long. I pushed the door open and started to walk out. “Okay. But stop psychoanalyzing me.”
He held the door open for me. “Done.”

About The Author

Teri Riggs was destined to be a writer. As a small girl she didn’t read bedtime stories, she made up her own. Who needed Little Red Riding Hood or The Three Little Pigs when there were so many great tales bouncing around in her head? When she grew up and became a mother to three little girls, she continued the tradition of making up bedtime stories. On the occasions she chose to tell conventional fairytales, Teri usually gave them a bit of tweaking here and there or added a new ending. Her girls loved it.
After her daughters had the nerve to actually grow up and leave home, Teri discovered she had a passion for writing and jumped right in. It came as no surprise she chose to write mysteries and happily-ever-after’s since that’s the genres she loves to read.

Teri lives in Marietta, Georgia with her husband, one of her daughters and two dogs that seem to think they rule the world. And some days Teri thinks maybe they do.

Enjoy the following excerpt for RESOLUTIONS:

Beefy hands wrenched Eve awake from a fevered sleep, pulled her from the cell, and shoved her into a musty-smelling hallway. I’m being moved? A guard pushed her with one hand, keeping a tight grip on an AK-47 rifle with his other.

Her shoulder throbbed in perfect cadence with the pains shooting through her broken wrist, and she had one badass headache from being punched in the face a few too many times. Using her good hand, she walked fingers across one cheek, then the other. The right side was totally numb. Her eye had swollen shut, and she couldn’t see a damn thing out of it. She ran her tongue across her teeth and tasted the tart, copper flavor of blood. Three teeth loose. Well, at least they’re still in place.

In spite of the relentless pain, she stayed determined to survive whatever Mendoza dished out. She wasn’t a quitter. No, sir. Duncan Falls, Iowa didn’t grow quitters. Eve ignored the constant ache in her ribs, courtesy of a guard’s overzealous kick, and took in a deep breath. She willed herself to stay alert, to keep pushing. Escape. Third times the charm

Eve slapped the guard’s dirty hand. “Hey, Pedro, stop being so damned pushy. Where we going anyway? We got a hot date I’ve forgotten about?”

He looked puzzled then shoved her again.

“Don’t understand English, do you, Diego? Bet you understand this.” Eve drove her elbow into the guard’s face. Thick rubbery cartilage gave, and she whooped triumphantly.

Blood squirted from his nose and he screamed.

Eve stepped back. “Yep, I’m pretty sure you understand that.”

Unable to grab the guard’s assault rifle, she clutched her injured shoulder, and took off in a slow jog, no longer able to push any harder.

Her escape was short lived.

If you are reading this, I think you should know that "About me" sounds so very pretentious to me. I guess that is what I am supposed to write about, so here it goes!

Kathryn is a simple country girl who likes to spend time with her hubba, hunka hubby, her three kids and her friends. She loves to cook and really loves to eat! During the spring and summer, you will more than likely find her outside puttering around in her garden. When the veggies start coming in, she will probably be sweating over a hot canner in the kitchen, canning all the goodies she is blessed with. Kathryn likes to hike and go camping, and as a Girl Scout leader, she gets to do this pretty often! On cold winter nights, you will probably find her wrapped in a warm blanket, lost in a good book, while sitting in her rocking chair on the front porch!

Kathryn was born and raised in North Carolina, and while she loves to travel, she can't imagine ever leaving the mountains that she has come to call home. Not a day goes by that Kathryn doesn't thank God for abundantly blessing her. He has been so good to her, and she is very grateful. She holds Jeremiah 29:11 very close to her heart and believes it with every fiber of her being. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Kathryn loves flip flops, chocolate, sweet tea and dirt between her toes. As far back as she can remember, she's had a book in her hand. Reading has carried her to places she will never go. It has introduced her to people that she will never meet. When life is great and when it is rough, she's always been able to find a book to carry her through. She finally decided to write down some of the stories in her head (yes, be scared) and heart after dawdling around and wasting years dreaming. She hopes you enjoy reading those stories as much as she loves writing them!

The Temptation of Lila and Ethan excerpt:

“Why do you think it’s so hard to be alone?” Lila asks, struggling to keep her eyes open as she gazes out

at the night sky through the cab window.

I’m turned sideways in the seat, with my knee up, so I’m facing her, even though she won’t look

at me. I lost count of how many shots we had hours ago and I can barely comprehend

how we got to a cab—stumbling, laughing, as she rubbed her hand up the front of my jeans. No, that

can’t be right, can it?

“I think being alone is fan-fucking-tastic. . . well, maybe . . .sometimes . . .” I mumble, draping

my arm on the back of the seat. I stare at her for a moment, taking in her bare skin in the

moonlight. I want to touch it. Lick it. Even bite it.

I’m bursting with sexual energy and I channel it to my foot on the floor, bouncing my knee.

There’s something different about tonight, something out of the ordinary, this strange need

to keep getting closer to Lila. It could be the alcohol. Or it could be something else, but there’s no way

my tequila-soaked mind is going to reach any sort of answer.

Lila turns her head toward me, her pupils wide and shiny. “Why are you staring at me like that?”

I keep tapping my foot on the floor, trying to think of a better answer than the first one that pops into

my head, but I can’t find one. “Because I’m thinking about you.”

She glances at the cab driver, a thirtyish guy wearing a baseball cap, and then her gaze lands

back on me. She sucks her lip into her teeth and I have to bounce my knee faster or I swear I’m going to

fucking lose it. “Thinking what about me?” she asks, looking wary, interested, and exhausted.

Don’t say it . . . “I was thinking about what it would be like to lick you . . . or bite you . . . either

one really.” It seems like I should regret it as soon as I say it, but regret is nowhere in my

reach at the moment.

Her breathing quickens and her voice comes out shockingly unsteady for someone who has sex

so much. “Then do it.”

I blink, wondering if I heard her right through the massive amount of alcohol consuming my

thoughts. “What?”

She holds my gaze steadily, even though she seems really nervous, her voice trembling. “Then

bite me. Or lick me…whatever you want.”
